 Healing Services

Healing services occur following the regular worship service on the last Sunday of every month.  Lasting only a brief time in nature, healing rites are offered to those who remain in the sanctuary to take part.  Usually, an anointing with oil concludes the service for those who wish to come forward and receive special prayer and blessing.

Recognizing that healing takes many forms and engages body, mind, and spirit, guided imagery, sacred reading, contemplative prayer, and the laying on of hands are all often modes of healing engaged in the services.  As healing services have been a part of the tradition of the spiritual life of the congregation for a number of years, it is acknowledged that a component of healing is having faith, such as that described in Psalm 107:17-19:  “Some were sick…and they drew near to the gates of death.  Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress; he sent out his word and healed them.”  (NRSV)

Anyone with the felt need for healing and a faith in the process of prayer and intercession is invited to stay and participate.
